At Greenfields Academy, behaviour is taught, supported, and developed through a clear and structured Behaviour Curriculum.
We recognise that behaviour is a form of communication and that many of our pupils require explicit teaching, consistent support, and personalised strategies to develop positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social understanding.
Our Behaviour Curriculum sets out what we expect pupils to learn about behaviour, how we teach these skills, and how we support pupils when challenges arise. It is underpinned by our commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and positive relationships, ensuring that all pupils feel safe, respected, and able to engage in learning.
Our Aims
The Behaviour Curriculum at Greenfields Academy aims to:
– Teach pupils how to regulate their emotions and behaviour in a range of settings
– Develop positive relationships with peers and adults
– Support pupils to understand the impact of their behaviour on themselves and others
– Reduce barriers to learning caused by dysregulation or unmet needs
– Prepare pupils for successful reintegration, transition, and life beyond school
A Consistent and Supportive Approach
Behaviour is managed consistently across the school through clear expectations, predictable routines, and a shared understanding among all staff. We prioritise:
– Early identification of behavioural needs
– Proactive support rather than reactive responses
– Restorative and reflective practices following incidents
– Individualised planning for pupils with additional needs
This ensures pupils experience a calm, structured environment where expectations are clear and support is responsive.
Evidence-Informed Practice
Our Behaviour Curriculum is informed by research into trauma-informed practice, SEMH provision, and positive behaviour support. Decisions about behaviour support are guided by data, professional judgement, and ongoing review, ensuring that strategies remain appropriate and effective.
Policy and Practice
The Behaviour Curriculum works alongside our Behaviour and Wellbeing Policy, translating policy into day-to-day practice. It provides staff, pupils, and families with a shared understanding of how behaviour is supported at Greenfields Academy and how we work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes.

Greenfields Academy is proud to be a Behaviour Smart School. Behaviour Smart is central to the delivery of our Behaviour Curriculum and underpins how we support, manage, and improve behaviour across the academy.
Staff use Behaviour Smart to record behaviour and positive conduct accurately and consistently. This shared system ensures a whole-school approach, reduces administrative burden, and allows staff to focus on proactive support rather than reactive responses.
Since implementing the Behaviour Smart behavioural change system, negative behaviour incidents have reduced by over 40%. This significant improvement reflects the impact of consistent recording, data-informed decision making, and personalised behaviour support.
Behaviour Smart enables staff and leaders to identify patterns, triggers, and emerging needs early. It supports the creation and ongoing review of individual Behaviour Support Plans, ensuring strategies remain responsive as pupils develop. The system also supports structured post-incident reflection, aligning with our restorative and learning-focused approach.
