At our Greenfields Academy, developing a lifelong love of reading is a key priority. We use BoomReader to help track, support and celebrate your child’s reading journey both in school and at home.
What is BoomReader?
BoomReader is a simple online reading record that replaces the traditional paper reading diary. It allows teachers, parents and pupils to:
– Log reading quickly and easily
– Track progress over time
– Celebrate reading achievements
– Communicate about reading between home and school
This helps us build a clear picture of your child’s reading habits and ensure they are getting the support they need.
What we ask parents to do at home…
To make the most of BoomReader, we ask that you sign up using your child’s personalised code:
Listen to your child read regularly
– Aim for at least 3–5 times per week
– This can include school books, library books, or appropriate texts at home
Log each reading session on BoomReader
– Record the date, book title, and pages read
– Add a short comment about how your child read
Support your child’s understanding
You can help by:
– Asking VIPERS questions about the story
– Discussing characters and events
– Talking about new vocabulary
Encourage independence (where appropriate)
Older pupils may log their own reading, but we still encourage parents to check and support where needed.
